U.S. Rep. George Santos was indicted on federal fraud charges on Wednesday. But the New York Republican will be staying in Congress, at least for now.
There are no rules affecting an indicted member of Congress, according to a Congressional Research Service report, so an indicted member may continue participating in House proceedings. And even if Santos is convicted, he wouldn’t automatically forfeit his office, according to the same report.
