Republican lawmakers took to social media to condemn the FBI’s raid late Monday on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in south Florida.
In a series of tweets, Sen. Marco Rubio likened the raid — which reports said was focused on whether Trump took classified material from the White House — to dictatorships persecuting political rivals.

The Florida Republican, a Trump rival for the party’s presidential nod in 2016, went on to express concern that the new Inflation Reduction Act, which the House is expected to approve and President Joe Biden to sign, will unleash Internal Revenue Service agents on Republicans.
Kevin McCarthy, the House minority leader, promised a series of investigations if Republicans take back the lower chamber, which betting markets now assign a roughly 80% probability.
Other Republicans expressed a similar view.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Georgia Republican who frequently courts controversy, tweeted a distress call.
Democratic lawmakers defended the Mar-a-Lago search.
