Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin was released from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and flown to Buffalo on Monday.
Hamlin, 24, collapsed on the field during a nationally televised game in January, and was given medical treatment for almost 20 minutes before being taken to a local hospital.
Hamlin has been moved to a hospital in his home city of Buffalo, New York, and will continue his recovery there. Doctors said Hamlin has been walking since last Friday, and eating regular food and undergoing therapy, and added they were “ecstatic” about his recovery so far.
Doctors also said he was on a normal or even accelerated trajectory in his recovery from cardiac arrest, which is considered a life-threatening event, and that normal recovery can be measured from weeks to months.
Hamlin’s return comes a day after he was awake and watched the Bills from his hospital bed during their regular season-ending 35-23 win over the New England Patriots.

“Watching the world come together around me on Sunday was truly an amazing feeling,” Hamlin said in a tweet announcing he was heading home to Buffalo.

Since Hamlin’s injury, a GoFundMe campaign he started in 2020, which at the time aimed to raise money for a holiday toy drive in his hometown of McKees Rocks, Pa. with a modest goal of $2,500, has raised $8.6 million from over 240,000 contributors.
