With no one claiming the top prize in Saturday night’s Powerball drawing, the jackpot has now climbed to an estimated $1.04 billion, making it among the 10 highest in U.S. lottery history.
The next Powerball drawing is scheduled for Monday night. If the jackpot is claimed by a single winner, the lump-sum payout (as opposed to an annuitized prize) would be $478.2 million.
The Powerball numbers drawn Saturday night were white balls 19, 30, 37, 44, 46 and red Powerball 22.
There’s been a run of super-large lottery prizes of late. Most notably, the Powerball jackpot reached $2.04 billion last November and was claimed by one individual, Edwin Castro, who purchased the ticket in California. That was the biggest prize in both Powerball and U.S. lottery history.
Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In recent years, online and app-based lottery sellers have also entered the market.
This year has already seen three lottery jackpots cross the billion-dollar mark, topped by a $1.58 billion Mega Millions one in August.
