Parents take note: Certain sippy cups are being recalled due to a lead-poisoning hazard.

Green Sprouts, a company that sells a variety of products for infants and toddlers, has issued the voluntary recall on its Stainless Steel Sippy Cups, as well as its Stainless Steel Straw Bottles and Sip & Straw Cups.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) explained that the base of the cups and bottles can break off, thus “exposing a solder dot that contains lead, posing a lead poisoning hazard to the child.” The CPSC noted that “lead is toxic if ingested by young children, and can cause adverse health effects.”

On its website, Green Sprouts said, “There is negligible risk to the health and safety of users. We are undertaking the costs and challenges of this recall voluntarily because our customers’ health and safety must come first.”

Consumers who purchased any of the cups or bottles are eligible for a refund, according to the CPSC. Green Spouts advises consumers to dispose of the items in the trash and to fill out a form on its website to make a claim.

In a statement, the company said: “As we approach the redesign of these products, whose benefits for keeping drinks cold safely have made them a popular choice for parents, we will ensure that lead is not used as a soldering material, no matter whether it would be accessible.”
