Bed Bath & Beyond coupons were once known for never expiring, but the famous blue-and-white mailers won’t be worth much after Wednesday. That’s when the store says it anticipates that it will stop accepting its ubiquitous coupons.
On Sunday, the company, which also owns buybuy BABY, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, saying it will wind down operations while it looks for asset buyers.
“We thank our loyal customers for bringing us into their lives and encourage them to visit us in-store and online to shop our closing sales,” Bed Bath & Beyond said in a statement.
While bankruptcy attorneys, creditors and potential buyers scrutinize Bed Bath & Beyond’s financials, bargain-hunting customers are now getting the specifics on coupons, gift cards and store closing sales.
Here’s what it all means for Bed Bath & Beyond shoppers hoping for deals.
Are Bed Bath & Beyond stores closing?
The company’s 360 Bed Bath & Beyond locations, along with 120 buybuy BABY stores, will stay open for the time being, “as the Company begins its efforts to effectuate the closure of its retail locations.”
The stores are open “as we begin our wind down process,” Bed Bath & Beyond said on its website.
However, there are changes to “several of our customer programs and policies,” the company said in statement.
How long do I have to use Bed Bath & Beyond coupons?
Bed Bath & Beyond says that it expects it will stop accepting its oversized, omnipresent 20% off coupons beginning on Wednesday, April 26.
Will Bed Bath and Beyond have store closing sales?
Yes. Shoppers should mark Wednesday, April 26, on their calendars, the company said. That’s when store closing sales start, according to Bed Bath & Beyond. “Customers will be able to shop for your favorite products at deep discounts,” it said.
All purchases during the store closing sales are final.
Can I still shop at Bed Bath & Beyond online?
Shoppers can still visit bedbathandbeyond.com “at this time,” according to the company. They can also keep using the Bed Bath & Beyond/buybuy BABY app “at this time.” Deliveries on all in-stock purchases from pending online orders will be carried out, the company said.
How long do I have to return Bed Bath & Beyond merchandise?
Shoppers have a month to make returns and exchanges. That is, for items purchased before April 26. Bed Bath & Beyond will accept returns and exchanges on these purchases until Wednesday, May 24.
How long do I have to use Bed Bath & Beyond gift cards?
Customers can use gift cards through Monday, May 8.
What if I have Bed Bath & Beyond store credit or points?
Shoppers have until Monday, May 15 to redeem merchandise credit, Bed Bath & Beyond said. Customers can redeem Welcome Rewards points until May 15, but members are no longer getting points with purchases.
What if I’m registered at Bed Bath & Beyond or buybuy BABY?
“Your registry data is safe,” the company said. Merchandise on a registry cannot be purchased through the registry any longer, but people can still view their items. “We expect to partner with an alternative platform where you will be able to transfer your data and complete your registry,” Bed Bath and Beyond said, adding it will provide more detail in the coming days.
While Bed Bath & Beyond is pledging “deep discounts” on purchases, the same thing is happening to its stock.
